Notice of Public Information Centre #2 for Grimsby Water Treatment Plant Expansion Environmental Assessment
Niagara Region has started a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for the expansion of the Grimsby Water Treatment Plant. The expansion will support future growth. The plant is at 320 North Service Rd. in Grimsby along Lake Ontario. It provides water to Grimsby, Lincoln and West Lincoln.
Process
This project is a Schedule 'C' project under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, approved through the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The study will cover Phases 1 to 4 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process.
When the study is complete, an Environmental Study Report will be prepared. This report will document the planning and decision-making process. It will be made available for at least 30 days for public review. A Notice of Completion will be issued at that stage.
Public Information Centre #1 gave an overview of the study. It covered the problem and opportunities, existing conditions in the study area, alternative solutions and evaluation criteria and the recommended alternative solution.
Since then, design concept alternatives have been developed and evaluated for the recommended solution. Studies and investigations were completed as part of this evolution. An overall design solution was recommended and mitigation measures of environmental impacts for the solution were reviewed.
Niagara Region encourages the public to take part in this planning process. Project information and display boards from Public Information Centre #1 are available on our website.
Public Information Centre #2
The Public Information Centre will be held online. To view the presentation and information materials, visit the Grimsby Water Treatment Plant Expansion Environmental Assessment project page on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025.
Niagara Region welcomes feedback on the information shared. An online comment form will be available on the project page and comments will be received until Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025 at 5 p.m. Feedback can also be given to the project team by phone or email.
