Notice of study commencement: Intersection improvements for St. Paul Street West (Regional Road 81) and Vansickle Road in St. Catharines

Niagara Region is starting a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for intersection improvements at St. Paul Street West (Regional Road 81) and Vansickle Road in St. Catharines. This study will help address traffic and safety concerns in the area.

 

The study area includes about 270 metres north on Vansickle Road to Ridley Road and 280 metres south to Meteor Street. It also includes about 250 metres east and 250 metres west along St. Paul Street West.

 

This project is being carried out according to the planning and design process for Schedule B projects, as outlined in the Environmental Assessment Act. The process includes consultation with agencies, stakeholders, Indigenous communities and the public. It also involves reviewing alternative solutions to address the problem, assessing potential environmental impacts and identifying reasonable measures to mitigate any adverse impacts.

 

When the study is complete, a Notice of Study Completion will be shared. A Project File Report will also be available for a 30-day public review. This report will explain the planning and decision-making during the process.

 

Consultation is an important part of this study. Niagara Region wants to make sure anyone interested has the opportunity to provide input into the planning and design. A Public Information Centre is planned for future phases of the study to gather input on alternative solutions. Further notice will be shared closer to the date of the Public Information Centre.

 

As the study progresses and more information becomes available, updates will be posted on the St. Paul Street West (Regional Road 81) and Vansickle Road Environmental Assessment project page.
