Annual Strengthening and Resurfacing Program

Niagara Region maintains 1,738 kilometres of roadway across Niagara. Keeping these roads in safe and optimal conditions requires ongoing review and maintenance.

Each year, we inspect one-third of the regional road network. Our focus is on regular preventative maintenance which can extend the life of a roadway.

Our strengthening and resurfacing program increases the lifespan of road sections by improving the structural integrity. The program includes:

  • Milling and paving the road surface
  • Repairing cracks in the base course asphalt
  • Replacing concrete curbs that are in poor condition
  • Replacing selected cross culverts
  • Pavement marking and granular shoulders
