Services for Elementary and Secondary Schools
Your public health nurse can consult and help with identification and development of school-wide health priorities. We can contribute to the learning environment of your school by offering the following services for elementary and secondary schools.
Elementary schools

Teaching tools
Public health teaching tools are designed to satisfy expectations outlined in the Ontario Ministry of Education's Elementary Health and Physical Education curriculum (2019) and support teachers in creating comprehensive lesson plans.
- Personal safety and injury prevention (Grades 1, 4, 5 and 6)
- Substance use, addictions and related behaviours (Grades 3-8)
- Human development and sexual health (Grades 4-8)
- Supporting mental wellness (Grades 1-8)
The development of these teaching tools are supported by an Ontario certified teacher employed by Public Health.

One-on-one support
A school nurse is available to provide one-on-one support to Niagara students in grades nine to 12 with:
- Relationships and sexual health support (in select schools)
- Substance misuse and addiction, including vaping and smoking
- Stress and coping skills
- Personal health concerns such as sleep habits, healthy eating and physical activity
- Dental health
- Vaccinations
- Connection to other community services
