St. Paul Street West (Regional Road 81) and Vansickle Road Environmental Assessment
All Niagara Region projects

About the project

Niagara Region has started a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for intersection improvements at St. Paul Street West (Regional Road 81) and Vansickle Road. This is an all-way stop intersection in St. Catharines.

St. Paul Street West is a two-lane, west-east regional road that plays a key role in balancing traffic flow with community access and place-making. Vansickle Road connects traffic from Fourth Avenue (Regional Road 77) through mixed-use lands to the Western Hill residential area south of St. Paul Street West.

RJ Burnside will carry out the study on behalf of Niagara Region.

The goals of this study are to:

  • Find alternatives to the current road design (both horizontal and vertical alignment)
  • Address sightline issues
  • Improve traffic capacity
  • Explore intersection control options
  • Improve road safety

The study will also look at active transportation and transit facilities in line with best practices and complete streets principles.
