About the project

The Port Dalhousie Wastewater Treatment Plan is owned and operated by Niagara Region, located at 40 Lighthouse Rd., in St. Catharines (north of Lakeshore Road), servicing St. Catharines and Thorold.

The Port Dalhousie Wastewater Treatment Plant requires improvements throughout the plant, which will be completed in phases under two contracts.

Project updates

• Contract One

  The scope of work associated with contract one includes:

  • Construction of two new aeration tanks consisting of fine bubble diffuser system, coarse bubble channel and chamber aeration, aeration tanks influent chamber and aeration tanks Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids chamber
  • Construction of a new blower building and installation of new blowers and controls
  • Replacement of existing secondary clarifier five Return Activated Sludge pumps and associated piping and instrumentation with new
  • Modifications to existing primary power distribution system, addition of a new switchgear, transformer and generator
  • Installation of new Remote Programmable Unit and supervisory control and data acquisition upgrades
  • Decommissioning of the existing aeration system
• Contract Two

  The scope of work associated with contract two includes:

  • Construction of new inlet/bypass channels with flow measurement
  • Modifications to existing screen building including installation of new screening conveyance system
  • Modifications to the chlorine contact tank inlet and gates
  • Refurbishment of the existing biofilter
  • Construction of a new administration building
  • Demolition of a portion of the existing administration building
  • Replacement and/or rehabilitation of the plant Master Control Centres
  • Replacement of the plant Remote Programmable Units
