About the project
The Cole Farm Sewage Pumping Station at 26 Colton Ave. in St. Catharines is owned and operated by Niagara Region. The station services a catchment area of approximately 100 hectares for nearby residents and businesses.
The station was constructed in 1978 with minor upgrades completed in 1992. Key components have been in service for over 30 years and are past their service life.
The scope of work includes:
- Demolishing the existing building and installing a new covered shelter
- Underground infrastructure replacement
- A new 600 metres long forcemain that will run from the pumping station, along Colton Avenue and Corbett Avenue to Main Street
- Pump and process piping and equipment replacement
- New outdoor generator
- Electrical, instrumentation and communication upgrades
- Site work improvements
Local impacts during construction
-
Traffic
Expect moving block by block lane restrictions and road closures that cause traffic delays.
-
Access
Access to your home or business will remain. We will notify you in advance if construction blocks your driveway for a short period and arrange accommodations. Email Dana Knegt any concerns with not having access during construction
The waterfront trail will remain accessible throughout construction, but will be rerouted outside the construction area.
There will be public access to walk along the outside of the construction site. Avoid any non-essential activities in the construction area if possible. Use extra caution when entering the construction area. Read and obey all warning signs, avoid heavy equipment and stay visible to all workers and vehicles.
