Green Bins are collected weekly in all municipalities from single family homes and apartments with 2 to 6 units. There are no limits to the amount of recyclables that can be placed at the curb.

Place your Green Bin at the curb with your garbage and recycling by 7 a.m. on your regular collection day. Do not place your Green Bin at the curb any earlier than 5 p.m. the day before collection.

Replacing a Damaged Green Bin

Bring your broken Green Bin or Kitchen Catcher to one of our container locations for a free replacement.

Restrictions for Green Bin Substitute Containers

Garbage cans and similar containers can be used as Green Bins by putting a sticker that identifies it as "Organics".

Requirements for Substitute Containers

  • Height: 3 feet (91 cm) or less
  • Diameter: 2 feet ( 61 cm) or less
  • Weight: 50 lbs or less
  • Handles: Must have handles to pick up container

Benefits of Using your Green Bin

Green Bins are for sale at locations across the region. Damaged containers can be replaced free-of-charge.

Using your Green Bin helps reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

As much as 53 per cent of garbage is organic (such as food waste) and should be composted. Using your Green Bin diverts this organic material from the garbage and saves valuable landfill space.
