Housing Development at 60 York St.
All Niagara Region projects

About the project

There is an urgent need for housing in Niagara. Niagara Regional Housing's new development project at 60 York St. will add 43 public housing units in Welland.

This development will be a pre-fab (built off-site), affordable apartment building in a residential neighbourhood located on the perimeter of the downtown core, which is directly accessible by East Main Street.

This pre-fab design / construction approach provides the benefits of a compressed construction schedule, allowing Niagara Regional Housing to put tenants in new units in a much shorter timeframe. The building will feature common space for tenants, and office space for staff and support agencies.

The site scores extremely high for walkability to all major amenities, making this an ideal location for development. There is close access to public transit, elementary / public schools, parks / trails, civic institutions, an employment centre, banks, post office, pharmacy, therapy clinics, shopping districts, groceries, restaurants and places of worship. The Welland Hospital and two major sports complexes are within a 2 km radius.
