Stormwater Management Design Guidelines
All Niagara Region projects

About the Project

Stormwater management controls the flow of water stemming from precipitation, such as rain and melting snow. Uncontrolled stormwater poses some dangers to our natural and built environment and our ecosystems.

We're developing guidelines that builders and developers can use to ensure new land development, redevelopment and infrastructure renewal projects properly manage stormwater. The guidelines will encourage an ecosystem-first approach. This approach will use the latest science to promote balanced and sustainable communities while protecting and preserving our natural environment.

The guidelines will provide direction and consistency for the various stages of development related to the planning, design and review of:

  • Regional master servicing plans
  • Functional servicing reports
  • Stormwater management reports

These guidelines will complement stormwater management requirements already included in Provincial, Regional and Local Municipal legislation and other guiding documents like the new Niagara Official Plan.
