Thorold Stone Road Extension and Bridge Street Reconstruction

Niagara Region is planning and designing the extension of Thorold Stone Rd. (Regional Road 57) where it currently ends at the Gale Centre (Phase 1), further south to a roundabout at Victoria Ave. as part of Phase 2 of the Thorold Stone Rd. extension under an approved 2009 Class Environmental Assessment.

The extension provides:

  • A key connection to the QEW
  • An improved east / west linkage to the City of Niagara Falls' downtown area and Niagara River Parkway
  • Support for redevelopment of and economic stimulus for high priority brownfield lands within the City of Niagara Falls

With improved transportation connectivity and daily GO train service to Niagara Falls by 2023, there is an opportunity to leverage and enhance the land uses. This will ensure it's an attractive arrival point for commuters and visitors.

Additionally, the Region is planning and designing for the reconstruction of Bridge St. (Regional Road 43), which connects Victoria Ave. with the Thorold Stone Rd. extension. Bridge St. is also the primary access for the GO Transit Station.

The Region is working with the City of Niagara Falls to determine a vision for the GO Station area. This includes road, transit, public realm and active transportation options for the Bridge St. / GO Station area as identified in the approved Niagara Falls Transit Station Secondary Plan.
