Moving Transit Forward - Plan

Daily GO Train Service

The Province of Ontario has committed to bringing daily GO Train service to Grimsby, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls. This means that here in Niagara we have to get those areas ready to take the best advantage of GO Train service when it arrives. This involves:

  • Working with Metrolinx on the design and development of GO Train stations
  • Redevelopment, realignment and rebuilding of roads, bridges and other pieces of infrastructure around these stations
  • Determining our future land use in and around the stations

To best take advantage of daily GO Train service, we must improve, enhance and redevelop much of our transportation infrastructure in these important transit corridors.

The Future of Transit in Niagara

The plan is to have a seamless, integrated transit system that provides local and inter-municipal service to the municipalities of St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Welland. This plan includes feeder transit systems in our smaller communities.

This integrated service would then provide inter-municipal transportation connections to all Niagara's municipalities and future GO Train stations.

The plan is to create a connected region where residents, visitors and travellers can easily access public transportation to get to employment, recreation and travel opportunities.

As more and more of Niagara's municipalities look at local transit options, these inter-municipal connections would integrate for smooth connections to local area transit systems.
