Catherine Street Sewage Pumping Station
All Niagara Region projects
About the project
Niagara Region started a Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment study for the Catherine Street Sewage Pumping Station, located at 8 Catherine St. in Fort Erie. The station was built in 1981 and has since undergone various maintenance repairs.
Investigations conducted at the station show aging infrastructure that's in need of repair or replacement to ensure it will properly service the Town of Fort Erie. The current location of the pumping station and the neighbouring lot are owned by Niagara Region. Both locations will be considered for an upgraded station along with other alternatives.
The study will define the current and future needs as outlined in the Water and Wastewater Master Plan and evaluate alternative strategies to avoid or minimize impacts to the community and natural environment. The master plan indicates future capacity demands will increase due to operational, capacity and wet weather constraints. The study will follow the guidance outlined in the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (as amended in 2007, 2011 and 2015).
The Region recognizes the opportunity for alignment between the Catherine Street Sewage Pumping Station update and the Lakeshore Road Sanitary Pumping Station Environmental Assessment due to their close proximity and the timing of the projects. Those interested are encouraged to review both project pages.
