Burleigh Hill Drive (Regional Road 56) Environmental Assessment
All Niagara Region projects

About the project

Niagara Region started a Schedule 'B' Municipal Class Environmental Assessment of Burleigh Hill Drive (Regional Road 56). The area is between Glendale Avenue (Regional Road 89) and St. David's Road (Regional Road 71). Burleigh Hill Drive is an important link connecting St. Catharines and Thorold. It's the only regional road that crosses the Niagara escarpment between Highway 406 and the Welland Canal.

The issues on this road include inadequate active transportation facilities and speeding concerns. There are also issues with poor stormwater drainage and worsening pavement conditions. The project team will develop solutions to address these issues. Adapting a complete streets approach will improve conditions for all road users.

Consultation with the public, Indigenous Nations, agencies and stakeholders is key. There will be two Public Information Centres. These allow for input on solutions and to discuss concerns with the project team. There will be a public notice before each Public Information Centre.
