Notice of Public Information Centre #1 for Ontario Street sanitary sewer and watermain replacement in Lincoln

Niagara Region is proposing to improve its transmission watermain system by replacing approximately 1.7 km along Ontario Street between King Street and Greenlane Road, within the existing road right-of-way.

In 2019 there was a watermain break in the existing pipe resulting in a major service disruption. The watermain was assessed to be in very poor condition when it was exposed for repair. Providing safe, reliable drinking water is a primary objective of Niagara Region. It is necessary to replace this watermain since future failures will be problematic and will negatively impact the community of Beamsville.

The Town of Lincoln is also proposing to replace and upsize approximately 1.7 km of sanitary sewer along Ontario Street between King Street and Greenlane Road, within the existing road right-of-way. It is necessary to replace aging infrastructure and to meet future growth demands for the area.

Process

This undertaking is categorized as a Schedule “A+” Project per the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (2000, as amended in 2007, 2011, and 2015). Though Schedule A+ Projects are pre-approved, Niagara Region has a duty to inform the general public, external agencies, and Indigenous communities and organizations before project implementation.

The design and specifications for the construction of the watermain are expected to be completed in August 2022, with construction of the proposed works to start in 2023.
