Niagara Region
has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for the
replacement of the Twenty Mile Creek Bridge on King St. in the Town of
Lincoln. The bridge is located
approximately 550m west of Nineteenth St. where Regional Road 81 crosses
Twenty Mile Creek. This bridge was constructed in 1940 and presently functions
as a two-lane arterial road serving east / west traffic flows. A Rehabilitation /
Replacement Planning Report was prepared in June 2010 recommending a full
bridge replacement. A subsequent biennial bridge inspection was undertaken in
2017 confirming the recommendation.
The study
is being carried out as a Schedule ‘C’ of the Class Environmental Assessment process in accordance
with the requirements outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class EA document (October 2000, as amended in 2007, 2011 and 2015), which is an approved process under the Ontario Environmental Assessment
Act. Once the study is complete, an Environmental Study Report will be
prepared and available for public review and comment. A Notice of Completion
will be issued at that stage.
Public consultation is
a key element of the process and input will be sought from various parties
throughout this study. Two public information centres will be
conducted to solicit public input for this study. The public will be notified
through advertisement in the local newspapers and mail outs. The public information centres will provide an opportunity for the public to review the design, provide
comments and discuss concerns and issues with the project team. For further
