Notice of Service Change: Business Licensing

​Beginning June 1, 2019, all business licensing, inspection and enforcement services​ will be transferred from Niagara Regional Police Service to Niagara Region.

Niagara Region has the authority to pass by-laws to licence, regulate and govern various businesses and occupations. This includes taxis, transportation network companies (rideshares), tow trucks, auto wreckers, salvage yards and second-hand goods stores.

The Region also has been given delegated authority to regulate and govern the adult entertainment industry in St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Thorold, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Welland and Fort Erie and the body rub industry in St. Catharines and Niagara Falls.

A new business licensing office operated by the Region will open for business starting June 4. The office is located on the second floor of 5853 Peer St. in Niagara Falls. The Office hours will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday to Friday, or by appointment. 

There will be no licence processing on Monday, June 3, 2019 at the new location. Please ensure licences expiring June 1-3 are renewed before 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31 with the Niagara Regional Police Business Licensing Branch.

This service change will impact the following business licence holders:

  • Taxi brokers, owners, drivers and vehicles
  • TNC (Transportation Network Company) businesses, drivers and vehicles
  • Shuttle service owners, drivers and vehicles
  • Site-seeing shuttle owners, drivers and vehicles
  • Speciality transportation service owners, drivers and vehicles
  • Paratransit taxi owners, drivers and vehicles
  • Tow truck owners, drivers and vehicles
  • Second-hand shops and dealers
  • Auto wrecking and salvage yards
  • Adult entertainment parlour owners, operators and entertainers located in Fort Erie, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Welland, St. Catharines, Thorold and Niagara Falls
  • Body rub parlour owners, operators and attendants in St. Catharines and Niagara Falls
