Notice of Study Commencement: Fort Erie Elevated Water Storage Tank

Fort Erie Elevated Tank Municipal Class Environmental Assessment and Enhanced Conceptual Design

Niagara Region is undertaking a Class Environmental Assessment for a new Fort Erie Elevated Water Storage Tank and associated distribution and transmission system upgrades.

Niagara Region recently updated its Water and Wastewater Master Servicing Plans, and this project is part of the recommended improvements to the Fort Erie water distribution system. The new elevated water storage tank will:

  • Consolidate Fort Erie’s water storage systems
  • Improve current pumping operations
  • Reduce long term lifecycle costs
  • Provide capacity to the Fort Erie Water System required to support projected growth

The study will follow the Schedule ‘B’ Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process as set out by the Municipal Engineers Association document of October 2000 and amended in 2007, 2011 and 2015.

Niagara Region will be considering and evaluating suitable sites within the Town of Fort Erie for the construction of the elevated water storage tank. The Region will also look at the existing water systems in the area to identify any necessary improvements. Impacts of the construction of the tank around the identified site will also be considered.

Public Information Centre

There will also be a public information centre scheduled for fall 2019 to present information, obtain your input and respond to questions. Further details on the upcoming public information centre will be provided as the project progresses. The project is planned to be completed in February 2020.
