Regional Holiday Hours - December 2021 to January 2022

Many Niagara Region facilities are closed to the public due to COVID-19. See all service changes and cancellations due to COVID-19.

All essential services provided by Niagara Region are available through the holiday season. However, most Niagara Region offices and facilities are closed on Dec. 23, 24, 27, 30 and 31 including:

  • Administrative offices
  • Child care centres
  • Provincial Offences Court
  • Public health
  • Sexual health clinics (As of Dec. 20, Welland and Niagara Falls clinics are closed until further notice)

Garbage, recycling and organics collection

There are no changes to waste collection for households due to Christmas Day or New Year's Day.

If your property is an industrial, commercial, institutional or mixed-use building within a Designated Business Area that receives collection on Saturday and / or Sunday (St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake), your collection will be delayed by one day. In lieu of Christmas Day, collection will occur on Sunday, Dec. 26. In lieu of regular Sunday collection, collection will occur on Monday, Dec. 27.

Holiday garbage exemptions

In the weeks following Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, households may put out two extra bags or cans of garbage without a garbage tag on their regular collection day.

  • Dec. 27 - 31: Fort Erie, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Pelham, St. Catharines, Thorold, Wainfleet and West Lincoln
  • Jan. 3 - 7: Grimsby, Lincoln, Niagara Falls, Port Colborne and Welland

Christmas tree collection - Jan. 10 - 14

Christmas tree collection is on your regular collection day during the week of Jan. 10 - 14.

Trees must be at the curb by 7 a.m. with all ornaments and decorations removed. Trees wrapped in plastic or buried in snow will not be collected. No artificial trees.

Niagara Region Transit, Niagara Specialized Transit and NRT OnDemand

On Dec. 24, there will be no routes after 9 p.m. Most routes last departure will be at 8 p.m.

Transit will not be operating on Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1.
