On Tuesday, May 28, the public is invited to attend the first Public Information Centre for an important Schedule 'C' Class Environmental Assessment. The Environmental Assessment is for a new wastewater treatment plant and upgrades to the sanitary system in the South Niagara Falls area to meet growing needs and help protect the environment.
50,000 more people are expected to come to live and work in the South Niagara Falls area by 2041. So, in 2017, Niagara Region Council and Niagara Falls Council adopted recommendations from the Water and Wastewater Master Servicing Plan Update for the new plant and improvements the system to be more efficient, accommodate growth and manage wet weather.
A new wastewater treatment plant will be an asset for the community in many ways.
The Region’s full assessment will take approximately two years to complete. However, the preferred site location is anticipated to be selected by the end of 2019.
For more details about the project or to submit comments, visit the South Niagara Falls Treatment Plan project page.
