Region begins second phase of the Glendale Niagara District Plan

Ongoing public engagement to continue with a public information centre in Niagara-on-the-Lake

With the Glendale Niagara area expected to welcome a significant number of new residents and jobs over the next several decades, it is critical that a proactive development strategy be created. Last year, Niagara Region began work on the Glendale Niagara District Plan study in partnership with the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and City of St. Catharines. Phase one of the study was completed in Oct. 2018, with Regional Council endorsing the vision and concept, and phase two is now underway.

The next steps will be to test and confirm the vision through technical analysis and with the assistance of key stakeholders, starting with public engagement during a public information centre on Jan. 31 in Niagara-on-the-Lake. This will be the first of a number of public information centre sessions regarding our strategy to help direct growth, ensuring the gateway to Niagara-on-the-Lake and the Niagara Peninsula is vibrant, sustainable and successful.

The first public information centre for phase two of the Glendale Niagara District Plan will:

  • Provide an overview of the purpose and scope of the Glendale Niagara District Plan study
  • Present the preferred vision developed during phase one of the study
  • Present initial findings from the phase two background and contextual review
  • Explain the next steps for the study, including opportunities for public participation
  • Provide an opportunity to ask questions and give feedback

Using research from the second phase of planning, a final district plan will go before council for approval in June 2019. For more updates and our project timeline please visit our Glendale Niagara District Plan project page.
