Niagara Region has received Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget for the fiscal year beginning January 1, 2022. This award was presented to the Financial Management and Planning Division.
The award represents a significant achievement by the Region. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the Region had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines assess how well a municipality’s budget serves as:
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the highest award in governmental budgeting. It follows another important milestone achieved by the Region. In June, Standard &Poor’s (S&P) upgraded Niagara Region’s credit rating to an “AA+” standing, from “AA” status, affirming the municipality’s continued commitment to deliver high-quality service while also focusing on affordability. S&P, a financial services company, offers credit ratings, data analysis, and equity research to private and public sectors across the globe.
