Copy Folders and Files

Folder and file copy considerations:

  • Do you want to maintain the original modification date?

You can retain the original modification date and time for the copied folder and files by using options in Advanced Copy/Move Options.

  • Do you want the copied folder/files to carry the same share settings as the parent folder?

Admins have the option to carry user access and share settings from the source folder to the copied folder. Regular users have this option if their org is licensed for Secure Folder Sharing.

  • Does your destination folder use Secure File Sharing?

When moving or copying a file to a new parent, ensure that the new location enforces the user access and share settings you intend. Regular users will be prompted to select a suitable option of Folder Permissions (for example, use parent settings, copy parent settings, use custom settings).

  • Are you copying MOVEit Transfer log files?

You can use the As Format selection in the Advanced Copy/Move Options to export MOVEit Transfer logs and WebPost logs to XML or CSV.

  • To copy one or more folders and/or files:
  1. Click the FOLDERS tab, and open the folder you want to copy.
  2. Select the checkboxes for the folders and/or files.
  3. Select a Destination Folder from the drop-down list.
  4. (Optional) Advanced Copy/Move Options as needed:

The following options apply only to Copy operations for most folders. For WebPost folders, the As Format option also applies when downloading multiple files.

    • As Format (Available when copying WebPost and Archived Logs files only): This option defines how the selected webpost or log files will be copied, moved, or downloaded. Available formats are:
      • Single XML Bundle: Selected files will be converted into a single XML file containing the data from each file in a separate node.
      • Single CSV Bundle: Selected files will be converted into a single Comma Separated Value (CSV) text file containing the data from each file in a separate row.
      • Individual XML files: Selected files will be individually copied or moved to the target folder as XML files. This option is not allowed when downloading multiple files.
      • Individual CSV files: Selected files will be individually copied or moved to the target folder as CSV text files. This option is not allowed when downloading multiple files.
    • Creation Information: These options define whether the original uploader information is kept with the file, or replaced by the current user's information. Note that folder creation information is not retained.
    • Folder Permissions (option for admins and secure folder sharing users only): For copied or moved folders, these options define whether the existing permissions are retained:
      • Use sharing settings from parent. Chain sharing settings to parent folder's sharing settings (View/Apply Share SettingsFolder Sharing Walkthrough) (maintain this relationship unless broken through customization).
      • Copy sharing settings from parent. Initialize from the parent folder's current settings (but impose no future relationship to parent settings).
      • Clear parent settings. Start clean and define your own settings. (You will need to add your own share settings now or later).

Note: This feature may not be available for all users.

  1. Click Copy. A copy of each folder and/or file is placed in the destination folder.
