Workplace Walk for Wellness Challenge: Toolkit

Promote healthy living in your workplace with the Walk for Wellness Challenge.

The program runs for five to 12 weeks, recording employee's walking distance (through a pedometer, or by an activity-conversion chart) and how many fruits and vegetables they eat. Teams are awarded bonus points for making 10 per cent increases every week.

Employees can participate individually, or in teams of three to four to compete against others in your workplace.

Getting the Challenge Started

Step 1: Designate a coordinator

Each workplace will need someone to coordinate the challenge. They will need to download/print the Coordinator's Manual (48 pages) containing set-up instructions, posters, registration forms, templates and tracking sheets to run the challenge.

Step 2: Materials for your participants

Once you have your management's approval for the challenge, and have your committee in place, you will need to download and print materials for the participants.

  • Team Captain's Manual (32 pages)
    Team captains will put together teams of up to four people (including themselves) to encourage their teammates, promote the challenge and assist the coordinator with administering the challenge.

  • Participant's Manual (31 pages)
    Contains information about the challenge, tips, and weekly charts, forms and questionnaires to fill out during the challenge.

If you are planning to use pedometers, you will also need to locate and borrow/purchase these devices for your workplace.

Step 3: Run the program and evaluate

Download/print the evaluation tools (16 pages) to assess how your employees did and provide feedback to us about the program.
