Become a Home Child Care Provider

Successful home child care providers will have:

  • A safe, healthy and smoke-free home environment, often with their own children
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to see your business succeed
  • A passion to provide high-quality child care, and fill a vital need in your community


  • Run your own business, from your own home
  • Choose your schedule, including evening and weekend hours, and how many children you serve (maximum six)
  • Receive support and resources to help you succeed
  • Get paid monthly by Niagara Region
  • Help fill a vital need in your community
  • Independently contract with Niagara Region Children's Services (a licensed agency by the Ministry of Education)

How Does It Work?

When you become a home child care provider with Niagara Region, we'll walk you through preparing your child care environment, find clients that meet your availability, and provide ongoing support to help you succeed.

The Region also offers reimbursement for start-up costs including fire inspection and criminal reference checks. Initial setup normally takes four to eight weeks.

Wage Enhancement

Through the Home Child Care Wage Enhancement Grant eligible providers may receive up to an additional $20 per day to support their child care services.

Once completed, applicants will be contacted and an interview will be arranged. If you are eligible, the agency will work closely with you to establish your home child care program and help you be successful.
