2023 Niagara Impact Awards

The Niagara Impact Awards recognize community members who have made a positive impact on life in Niagara.

Residents are encouraged to nominate individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations who have gone above and beyond to help make living in Niagara a little better for others during the past year.

Starting in 2023, the T. Roy Adams Humanitarian of the Year Award will be added to the Niagara Impact Awards program.

Eligibility

  • Open to current residents, businesses, and community and non-profit organizations in Niagara
  • Evidence showing the spirit of volunteerism and community
  • Elected officials currently in office and Regional staff are not eligible

Application

When completing the application, you'll be asked about:

  • The action or initiative performed by the nominee that had a positive impact on Niagara during the past year and approximately how many residents it affected
  • How this action contributed to community spirit and Niagara's image
  • Contact information for the nominee

How to nominate

A nominee for the Niagara Impact Awards can be sponsored by an organization or individual (co-sponsors, not related to the nominee).

2023 nominations are closed.

Winners will be announced April 12 at the Regional Chair's State of the Region event.

2022 Impact Award recipients

With over 140 submitted nominations, stories were shared about those who made a substantial, positive impact on our communities. The scope and scale of the nominations ranged from moving personal stories, to broad, region-wide examples of service.

  • Community Leader Award - Chris Sinclair and Adam Shields
    Chris Sinclair with Chair Bradley

    Nominated for their work in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars through the Niagara Golf Marathon.

    Together, their volunteer efforts over the past 11 years have assisted many local charitable organizations and demonstrates their caring and leadership in action.

  • Youth Award Winner - Katie-Ann Wolfenberg

    Katie-Ann Wolfenberg with Chair Bradley

    Sixteen-year-old Niagara Falls resident Katie-Ann Wolfenberg received multiple nominations for her fundraising initiatives that helped serve as a model and inspiration in our community to inspire other young people to volunteer and contribute to society in meaningful ways.

    Among her many endeavours, Katie-Ann collaborated with local businesses to purchase a commercial BBQ, which she then used to host Community BBQs to help feed those less fortunate. Through her volunteer work with the GROW Community Food Literacy Centre, Katie-Ann later donated the BBQ to them for future community gatherings.

  • Individual Award Winner - Bob and Louise Montgomery
    Bob and Louise Montgomery with Chair Bradley

    Bob and Louise Montogmery of Niagara Falls received multiple nominations for their selfless acts of giving back to our community by opening their home to a family in need, assisting others in getting to appointments, providing wellness checks, running errands, helping with home and vehicle repairs, making meals, volunteering, sewing bags for hygiene kits for third-world countries and being known to neighbourhood kids as the place to go to for bicycle repairs.

  • Non-Profit Award Winner - Zonta Club of St. Catharines

    Nominated for their work in empowering women both in our community and globally.

    Zonta Club members actively support organizations and individuals that assist women and children through many efforts that include fundraising, advocacy, vigils, scholarships and assembling hundreds of birthing kits for third world countries each year.

  • Business Award Winner - BTO Performance
    Dan Giancola, Owner/Foudner of BTO Performance, with Chair Bradley

    Nominated multiple times, BTO Performance quickly pivoted throughout the pandemic to offer free online personal training and motivational support services to local residents and their global community of online followers, helping to ensure everyone was able to maintain their physical and mental health.

    Dan Giancola and his team at BTO Performance spearheaded countless "Give the Boot To" campaigns, which have helped raise tens of thousands dollars for local non-profits while also raising public awareness of many worthwhile causes.
