Referring for Early Child Development Concern (for Health Care Professionals)
Referrals can be made with family consent by:
- Physicians
- Allied health care professionals
- Social services
- Community agencies and parents
Reasons to Make a Referral
Infants and children (birth - 5 years of age) can be referred if they had:
- Been diagnosed or are at risk of developmental delay(s)
- A premature birth
- Trauma at birth
- Prenatal exposure to substance abuse
- Global developmental delay(s) (i.e. genetic disorder)

Follow-up to a Referral
An infant development therapist will connect with the referral source and the family.
They will provide:
- Regular home visits to assess and monitor development
- Create program plans to help the child achieve optimum development
