Referring for Early Child Development Concern (for Health Care Professionals)

Referrals can be made with family consent by:

  • Physicians
  • Allied health care professionals
  • Social services
  • Community agencies and parents

Reasons to make a referral

Infants and children (birth - 2 years of age) can be referred if they had:

  • Been diagnosed or are at risk of developmental delay(s)
  • A premature birth
  • Trauma at birth
  • Prenatal exposure to substance abuse
  • Global developmental delay(s) (i.e. genetic disorder)

Follow-up to a referral

An infant development therapist will connect with the referral source and the family.

They will provide:

  • Regular home visits to assess and monitor development
  • Create program plans to help the child achieve optimum development
