The plant is located at 160 Lake St. in Grimsby and receives wastewater from Grimsby, Lincoln and West Lincoln.

Expanding the plant to 47.3 million litres per day as recommended by the 2021 Water and Wastewater Master Servicing Plan Update will support growth in the area. This study will help the system's long-term sustainability and address current needs.

Once the study is complete, an environmental study report will be prepared. It will document the planning and decision-making process and will be submitted to the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. The report will be available for a 30-day public review period.

Curbside collection is available for residents living in single-family homes and apartments with six units or less.

When setting out branches for collection, remember:

Branches must be tied into bundles with string or twine

Maximum weight per bundle: 22.7 kg (50 lbs)

Maximum bundle size: 1.5 m (5 ft) in length and 0.5 m (1.6 ft) in diameter

Individual branches must not exceed 7 cm (2.8 in) in diameter

Branches must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular collection day or after 5 p.m. the night before

During the weeks of spring branch collection, branches and leaf and yard waste are often collected in a separate truck from Green Bin material

Large branches and tree limbs exceeding these limits can be dropped off at a Regional waste and recycling drop-off depot year-round, free of charge. To avoid delays, plan your visit outside of the busiest days (Mondays, Tuesday and Saturdays).

Special collection weeks, such as branch collection, holiday collection and Christmas tree collection are available in the Niagara Region Waste App. View your address-specific calendar or download the Niagara Region Waste app from the Apple or Google Play stores.

This change supports efforts to reduce the amount of organic and recyclable material placed in the garbage. It also helps move the garbage collection program toward full cost recovery.

Recent waste audits show that about two-thirds of what is thrown in the garbage could be placed in the Green Bin or recycling box, which are collected every week. Using these programs reduces the number of garbage bags set out for collection and helps extend the life of the Region's landfills.

Residents can continue to use previously purchased $2.85 garbage bag tags on extra garbage containers after May 1, 2026, until they are used up. Garbage bag tags are sold at more than 100 stores on behalf of Niagara Region.

These deficiencies, including road depressions along sections of the roadway, mainly affect the local watermain, sanitary sewer and the road itself. These are essential services for surrounding properties. As a result, immediate repairs are needed to reduce potential risk to the public.

Starting as early as March 30, 2026, crews will begin repairs. The scope of work includes replacing the local sanitary sewer and watermain, replacing previously backfilled material with granular material and placing new asphalt pavement.

Work will be contained to Quaker Road from Rice Road to Clare Avenue and will be completed in two stages:

Stage 1: Rice Road to Montgomery Road

This includes the section of Quaker Road from Rice Road to about 10 metres west of Montgomery Road. Temporary watermains will be installed on both the north and south sides of Quaker Road to maintain continuous service for the duration of the work. The road will be graded and paved immediately after the underground infrastructure work is complete to reduce disruption from dust.

Stage 2: Montgomery Road to Clare Avenue

This includes the section of Quaker Road from 10 metres west of Montgomery Road to Clare Avenue. Temporary watermains will be installed on both the north and south sides of Quaker Road to maintain continuous service for the duration of the work. The road will be graded and paved immediately after the underground infrastructure work is complete to reduce disruption from dust.

Access to the neighbourhood north of Quaker Road will be provided by the temporary entrance at Summerlea Avenue and Line Avenue for the duration of the work. Traffic detour signs will be installed to direct motorists during construction.

Construction work will consist of
the rehabilitation of 1.8 km of concrete sewer and manholes along the
Thundering Waters sewer system.

Niagara Region has

Consultants to provide the construction administration and inspection services.

Project status

Construction is expected to begin Sept. 8, 2025 and be completed by June
2026.

What
to expect

can expect construction vehicles and related truck traffic, and a degree of
construction-related noise, dust and short-term inconvenience. During the

Construction
lane restrictions, lane closures and road closures resulting in traffic delays are
expected but will be minimized. Alternate routes around the construction zone
will be posted and should be followed.

No
planned service interruptions to water, wastewater, electricity or gas are
expected. During the sewer lining process, residents will be asked to minimize
water usage.

There
will be no changes to garbage, recycling and organic collection as a result of
the construction. If needed, the contractor will carry bins to a more
accessible location and return once emptied. Residents should label their bins
to ensure they are not misplaced.
