Notice of Public Information Centre #2 for Niagara Falls Elevated Tank Environmental Assessment

Niagara Region has started an Environmental Assessment study to identify a preferred solution to meet storage needs to efficiently operate the Niagara Falls water distribution system. The preferred site for the elevated tank is southwest of the intersection of Stanley Avenue and Marineland Parkway.

Niagara Region's 2021 Master Servicing Plan identified that more water system storage will be needed to support growth in Niagara Falls. The Region has also committed to removing all multi-leg elevated tanks as they do not meet current seismic standards.

A previous study recommended decommissioning the existing water tower on Lundy’s Lane. It also recommended replacing it with a new water tower to meet future capacity needs.

This study is being completed as a Schedule ‘B’ Class Environmental Assessment. It will satisfy Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process. This is a planning process approved under Ontario’s Environmental Assessment Act.

The study will define the problems and opportunities associated with the project. It will develop and evaluate alternative strategies. It will also identify a feasible solution and methods to avoid or minimize impacts on the community and natural environment.
