Notice of construction: William Street Sewage Pumping Station emergency generator in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Niagara Region is replacing the emergency generator at 443 William St. in Niagara-on-the-Lake. This upgrade will help keep this critical sewage pumping station safe and reliable.

The new generator meets all Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks codes and regulations for sound, emissions and environmental compliance.

What to expect

Work will typically take place Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Construction is expected to begin April 6, 2026 and be complete by late June 2026.

During construction, you may notice minor dust and periodic noise. We do not expect a significant increase in traffic in the area, as usually one or two service vans will be on site.

The key tasks are:
  • Construction of a new concrete pad on the southeast side of the existing building. This will involve minor excavation using light equipment.
  •  A concrete truck will be on site for one day to pour concrete
  •  A crane will be on site for one day to lift and position the new generator on the concrete pad
  •  Contracted electricians will connect the new generator to switchgear located inside the building
We appreciate your cooperation and patience during this time.
