Humberstone Landfill site closed due to fire

The Welland Fire Department has informed us that the fire at Humberstone has now been extinguished. The site will reopen Oct. 15 at 8 a.m. Niagara Region appreciates the effort of all fire departments and police in assisting with this incident.

A large fire broke out at the Humberstone Landfill site on Oct. 13 around 6 p.m. The site is closed to the public until further notice.
The fire started in a pile of construction and demolition materials. The fire has been extinguished, but firefighters are still working to put out several hot spots.
Niagara Regional Police Service has closed Humberstone Road leading into the site. The Welland Fire Department is asking nearby residents to keep their doors and windows closed.
