Come out to Niagara Region’s Fall Compost Event
Niagara Region is providing compost for a cash or food donation from Sept. 30 to Oct. 5.
Adding compost to your garden beds in the fall can help give your plants a head start in the spring.
While quantities last, Niagara residents can pick up 20 litre bags (limit of three bags per household) of compost at:
- Niagara Road 12 Landfill in West Lincoln
- Humberstone Landfill in Welland
- MacBain Community Centre in Niagara Falls
- Bridge Street Waste and Recycling Drop-Off Depot in Fort Erie
Get the full details of compost giveaway locations and operating hours.
Residents will be required to load the compost into their own vehicle. In exchange for the compost, residents are asked to donate non-perishable food items or cash in support of these local charities:
- Fort Erie COPE (Community Outreach Program Erie)
- West Lincoln Community Care
- Salvation Army Thrift Store
- The HOPE Centre
- Goodwill Niagara
- Project Share
Did you know that organic waste placed in the Green Bin for curbside collection is recycled into a compost? The Green Bin is an important tool for keeping food and other organic waste out of the landfills. Green Bins are picked up weekly, there is no limit, and it reduces the number of garbage bags you need to place at the curb.
