Reporting to the Manager Special Projects, the Senior Planner is primarily responsible supporting the approval of locally and privately initiated Secondary Plans both in terms of approvals and technical expertise and resources.
This position is also responsible to provide for leadership for a wide range of planning and policy matters, preparing reports on a wide range of complex and politically sensitive projects, issues and proposals.
1. Leads and manages the approval of locally and privately initiated Secondary Plans, both in terms of approvals and technical expertise and resources. These plans involve complex and politically sensitive land use and community planning policy, planning policy processes, undertaking specialized research from problem identification to implementation. 2. Supervises the Secondary Planning team facing service responsible for customer service to local municipalities and applicants. 3. Leads review of specialized policies, guidelines and standards to ensure conformity with the Regional Official Plan, provincial legislation, federal legislation, and provincial plans under the Ontario Planning Act. Assesses and analyzes these matters to develop recommended implementation through the Regional Official Plan, Regional policies, guidelines, standards and programs. 4. Represents Niagara Region administrative departments (Planning and Development Services, Public Works, Public Health) on Technical Committees (e.g. Source Protection Committee State of Aggregate Resource Committee). 5. Provides functional guidance to staff and contractors, providing work direction, assigning tasks/projects, determining methods and procedures to be used, resolving problems, and ensuring results are achieved.
