Statement from Regional Chair Alan Caslin on Appointment of New Chief Administrative Officer

Carmen D'Angelo

On behalf of Regional Council, I am pleased to announce the hiring of a new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), effective October 31, 2016.

At a Special Meeting of Regional Council held Monday afternoon, Council appointed Carmen D'Angelo, former CAO of the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority, to serve as the Region's next CAO starting November 14, 2016.

Carmen has held senior leadership positions in both municipal and healthcare sectors. Carmen has a strong understanding of Niagara's economic, social and political environment, having worked closely with Niagara's 12 municipalities and surrounding areas as CAO of the NPCA. He has developed excellent working relationships with many Members of Regional Council that sit on the NPCA Board.

During the six-month recruitment period, our Corporate Management Team and Acting CAO Maurice Lewis have worked hard moving forward Regional Council's Strategic Plan and our key priorities.

As Chair of the CAO Recruitment Committee, I would like to thank the various candidates that put their name forward for consideration. I also appreciate the time and effort of members of Regional Council that sat on the committee and provided a candidate recommendation to Council.

On behalf of Regional Council, I welcome Carmen to the Niagara Region and look forward to establishing a close partnership with him as he delivers on Council's Strategic priorities, leads Niagara Region's 3000+ employees, and builds strong relationships with Regional Council in order to foster an environment for economic prosperity across Niagara.

-- Regional Chair, Alan Caslin
